RULES OF PLAY & LAWS OF CRICKET

2.1 MCC LAWS OF CRICKET

The laws of cricket as laid down by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) shall be observed, unless otherwise stated within this set of rules. The following exceptions apply:

42. a) Law 42.8 Deliberate bowling of high full-pitched balls:

The rule is to be altered to allow the same warning procedure as in Law 42.7 ( i.e. two warnings before being removed from bowling).

42. b) Law 42.6 b Bowling of high full pitched balls:

(i) This rule applies to all bowlers of medium and fast pace. Any ball above the waist is to be called a “no ball”. For spin bowlers any ball above the shoulders is to be called a “no ball”.

(ii) A bowler who over steps the line of the popping crease or delivers a ball that is above the waist will be deemed to have ball a “no ball”. The following delivery after the “no ball” will constitute a free hit in which the batsmen can only be out through a run out.

c) A bouncer bowled above a player’s head in his normal stance is to be called a wide.

No more than 2 bouncers per over is permitted.

d) Balls down legside will be called a wide, and offside wides will be subject to the umpires discretion.

2.2 LOCAL RULES

Each side must use a four-piece ball, this will be recommended and provided by the competition organisational committee prior to the start of the season.

The match ball in APL games will be the Kookaburra Turf 4 Piece balls which will be provided by the competition organisers prior to each game.

a) A minimum of seven (7) players shall constitute a team on the day of play. A team will be deemed to forfeit the match if a minimum of seven (7) players from the team do not arrive to the match prior to the match starting time.

b) No more than five (5) players shall be permitted to field on the leg side at any time.

A ball delivered in contravention to this Rule shall be called by the Umpire as a “No Ball”.

Note: The number of leg side fielders behind the popping crease shall not exceed two (2), as per MCC Law 41.

c) Any delivery that bounces off, or on the edge of, the pitch in front of the line of the popping crease shall be called and signalled “No Ball” immediately upon the ball bouncing.

d) The Management committee will provide stumps to all umpires in charge of the matches this will be with them for the duration of the season.

e) Cones and marking of grounds will be provided to the umpires if they are not already marked by the groundsman.
